Today is #worldorangutanday and this is a photo of a wild Bornean Orangutan I took a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, most of their habitat has been destroyed to make palm oil plantations, and now Orangutans are nearly extinct in the wild 🌴 Please celebrate #worldorangutanday by looking up what palm oil is and start making #palmoilfree choices, these guys need our help.

🍃Smooth Snake - Coronella austriaca🍃
This is one of my favourite of UK’s native reptiles, a juvenile smooth snake (handled under license).
Smooth snakes are one of three native species of snake to the UK, and the rarest of all British reptiles. The are strictly protected by law, making it an offence to damage or destroy their habitats as well as to disturb, harm, kill, capture or sell them (unless under license). Smooth snakes are restricted to the heathlands of Surrey, West Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset. They are a constrictor, preying mainly on other reptiles, nestling birds and insects. Smooth snakes are viviparous, meaning the give birth to live young rather than lay eggs.
