Two games in one day and plenty of things to do like meeting Boog Powell.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. #Repost@sportsrefugesportsblog with @get_repost
“If you’re spending 8-10 hours at a ballpark for two games, you have to be prepared for a long day, especially if your team is on the pace of being historically bad.” Doubleheaders were a staple of baseball games more than a half-century ago.
They were so prevalent that they comprised a quarter of the schedule among the American and National leagues some seasons.
Some of the reasons for the decline of the twin-bill included teams seeing more value in single-game tickets; evolving strategies in the game such as the five-man pitching rotations and increased emphasis in the use of relief pitchers; and what was described as a “lack of consensus” by the players.
When those rare doubleheaders do take place, they mostly are day-night doubleheaders, which call for two separate games on the same day instead of the traditional early-afternoon and twi-night affairs, successive games played together, which @theearlholland documented.
