@sarabstro had the most epic Ironman at Lake Placid today (and No. 6 at that)! I cried so many tears of joy and excitement waiting for her to roll around the corner into Keene this morning, with her full cheer squad weathering the time with cheery anticipation. All the old mountain folk who embrace the race volunteering year after year warmly shouting "Welcome to Keene" and things like "You've never looked better!!" really tugs at the heartstrings. But nothing beats the beaming smile Sara threw our way when she saw us standing in the rain on the side of the road, sighting her mom proudly waving her custom, vintage pinwheeled sign! #imlp#imlp2018#triathlon#cheersquad#soproud
The Whitehorse Rags Cheer Squad in fine form ... almost bought the seniors to a much needed win .... they settled for a hard fought 1 all draw with Western United.... A stellar performance in goals by keeper Big Brettie kept them within striking distance #sport#soccer#localsoccer#localsoccerteam#cheersquad#reserves
NOTHING IS EASY // *long post alert*
Where to begin. Deciding on a new challenge for 2018 to take my running out of a rut, a persuasive nudge from @melanie.bw, @ladyscorcher and @catchingheather found me signing up for the @torontotriathlonfestival.
Swim. Bike. Run.
Should be fun, right? Having spent 8 years with a chronic shoulder injury resulting in surgery 1.5 years ago, swimming is not my strong suit. I need proper technique training. But I trained best I could, and got out there today.
The rain and wind was cruel this morning. Having had 3 open water swims ever in life, I had a little panic attack at the start line today. Literally thought - “I’ll just swim over to the lifeguard and ask to be pulled out...”. Then the gun went off and I started paddling. Then I froze. Could not get into a front crawl of any kind. So I defaulted to my breast stroke, then back stroke, steadied my breath and repeated that til I finished. NOTHING IS EASY.
2 minutes shy of the cut off time. 28 min swim (average swim is 15-20min). Tried to make up time on the bike - the headwind was brutal. When my legs felt the heaviest, it was time to run! Enter #CheerSquad who gave me LIFE on the route. Again, found my breath, kept pushing. Reminded throughout the race that NOTHING IS EASY (s/o to @mango_peeler ) but the feeling crossing that finish line is irreplaceable! JOY! Thank you TTF, the amazing staff and volunteers, cheer squad for all the support in person and virtually. The love was felt! It got me through. S/O to all the atheltes who’ve helped inspire this Tri life!! Who’s in for next year?
