The petrified redwoods (cf. Sequoia affinis) of Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument have silicified and now support a number of lichens . . . The obvious orange foliose growth is Caloplaca. The stuff with the grey thallus and black apothecia in the lower part of the picture is possibly Lecidea (#icouldbewrong and #pleasecorrectmeifimwrong). The sea-green lichens in the upper right are likely Rhizoplaca.
Amazing 2nd night! Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Cold War Kids, The Growlers and Modest Mouse killed it! And it started to rain just at the end. Rain the last 3 blocks to the car in a downpour! #velorama#colorado#denver
