Quadruped hip extension using blocks as feedback. The bird Dog is a common and very useful tool for teaching proper hip extension patterning to athletes, those suffering from LBP, and pretty much anyone else that has hips and plans on using them.
🔹One of the common compensations I see during this movement is that people will struggle to dissociate hip extension from low back extension. From a movement perspective, this can lead to a leak of power, making your training less effective-we want to use our prime movers for movement (hint:your low back is not the muscle group responsible for sprinting or lifting heavy weights) and increasing injury risk.
🔹In the video I’ve set blocks up just under my belly button as some external feedback-if I try to extend at my spine instead of the hip, my belly will move into contact with the blocks, signaling that I’ve lost control of my pelvis. This is any easy feedback mechanism that anyone can use on their own to ensure they are doing the exercise correctly.
🔹Think of dragging your toe on the floor as you push your heel towards the wall behind you-should feel this all in your butt and hamstrings. Take a deep breath and keep your core tight.

Yoga is starting to feel good and put a smile on my face for the first time in about six months. My practice suffered more than I would like to admit through a change in work, apartments and a breakup. Yoga, for the past four years has helped dramatically with my mental health but when life hits you with everything at once it can be hard to remember not only what makes you feel better but also finding the motivation to actually do it. Three weeks ago I did a full practice, tears flew in the majority of the poses as it felt like physically I was back to square one. I thought about throwing it out the window but instead I thought, I’ll do it for one whole week. By the end of the week it was already feeling a little smoother. My flows don’t look like they did at their peak but it’s the feeling that matters, not the aesthetic and little by little it’s coming back together. Speed x4

So.. I’ve been wanting to do a post about this for a while & finally today I felt good about doing it! I’m sharing these photos, that I took today of myself to just show people that there is no such thing as the “PERFECT BODY”. My pics here are not filtered or tweaked in any way. Nor am I sucking anything in! This is me & holy shit do I feel vulnerable!!! But I don’t care.
I have hips. I have curves. I have stretch marks. I have cellulite. I jiggle when I move. Hahaha. And I feel ok about it. Some days not so much, but this is my body & I want to love it EVERY DAMN DAY!!! I workout, but I don’t stress about it. I eat well, but not the best I’m sure. I try not to deprive myself of anything. If I want a donut I’m eating a dang donut . If I want a cheeseburger & fries, ya know damn well I’m gonna eat it! And have leftovers, cause I eat like a bird, LOL.
I don’t know. I see so many people mostly women stressing over how we look & feel with our bodies. Social media does not help either!! Every pic is photoshopped, altered to make women look more attractive, skinny, & smooth all over. Yes, I’m guilty of doing it! And that’s just not the truth.
So here I am, all of me!! Like it, don’t like it, love it. Hate it. Whatever makes your heart happy at the end of the day. Do it. Be it. Flaunt it. You’re beautiful. 💋🖤✌🏽
