"I should be dead.
Some ten years back my lungs decided to give up shop and I spent 4 weeks in the big city ICU.
Not that I remember anything, but afterwards they told me the carbon dioxide in my blood was 6 times the lethal level.
No matter how weak I was, I was determined to walk out of there with my own two feet. They tried to force me into a wheelchair but I compromised with one of those wheelie frames.
As I walked out of the doors of the hospital, I ran into the specialist who was the head honcho responsible for my care. She looked me dead-square in the eyes and said: "You better kiss the ground you're walking on because you should really be kicking it from below."
Let me tell you, I kiss it every day."
If you're going to take a break from the #USOpen for a short time this weekend, please do stop in at my exhibition "Above and Beyond" at The Art Gallery at Quogue Library. It's less than ten miles west of the Shinnecock traffic at 90 Quogue Street in Quogue. 😉
