It’s easy to see why they call it Panorama Point in Capitol Reef National Park. Layer upon layer of rock as far as the eye can see makes for incredible vistas. Road trips like this provide such an opportunity to educate children about their surroundings. We’ve talked and learned about so many different things, but here in Capitol Reef alone we’ve learned about ancient culture “the Ancients” as Senna says, as well as geology and wildlife. Our public lands are such a great resource for so many other things other than just being pretty places. What’s your favorite part about public lands? 📷 by @drewtrush ••• Do you have any shots from public lands you love? Make sure to get them entered into the @nature_org photo contest before May 31. •••

Did you know that today is Astronomy Day? Luckily for me the clouds didn’t roll in on this spot before I got to Owachomo Bridge in Natural Bridges National Monument. The orientation of the bridge made for the perfect positioning to cross in front of the Milky Way. Public lands in Utah are so fantastic for getting out and seeing the stars. I’m here with my family on a #roadtrip through Utah celebrating our public lands ahead of #earthday with @nature_org. Have you got some incredible shots of your own? Enter them in the Nature Conservancy Photo contest before May 31st and see how they do! The Landscape of Capitol Reef National Park stretches for miles and miles. Canyons, spires and massive cliff faces invite visitors to explore one of the more out of the way parks in Utah. Known as the Waterpocket Fold, this National Park was created in 1971. Not many people know that the park actually started as a National Monument. Early explorers would refer to the massive cliffs that made local travel difficult as “reefs”, eventually contributing to the name of this magnificent park. Have you ever been to Capitol Reef? 📷 @drewtrush

There’s no better place to celebrate International Dark Sky Week than in southern Utah. The Temple of the Moon should be on any photographers bucket list. I took this shot #rushingthroughutah on a road trip celebrating a variety of public lands with my Dad, Tom, and daughter Senna traveling through a variety of State Parks, National Monuments & National Parks that are a little more off the beaten track. We found no crowds, happy campers and plenty of Dark Sky sites like this one. Dark sky sites like Capitol Reef are increasingly hard to find as light pollution from cities continually creeps into the wild. I believe seeing skies like this can help instill a sense of wonder in our children, and help them want to unplug and instead connect with nature. We made several trips out late at night to introduce Senna to the night sky on the trip. Do you have some killer night shots of your own? Make sure to enter them in the @nature_org photo contest. I’m always amazed how people disregard the smartphone camera, blowing it off thinking it’s not a “real” camera. I can tell you it blew me away at this spot on my current assignment with @nature_org. Whats your best cell phone shot? Are you going to enter it in the @nature_org photo contest? If so, better hurry it ends soon, on May 31 as a matter of fact!! I’m in southern Utah taking in the landscape and visiting with other families to see what brought them here. We’re in Capitol Reef at the moment in the Fruita campground stop by and let us know why you’re here!! Look for the Wyoming plates. 😎🙌 ________________________________ #rushingthroughutah #commonground #publiclands #utah #calfcreek #shotoniphone @nature_utah

Peekaboo Canyon is located on the Hole In The Rock Road in southern Utah and near the boundary of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. It’s a fantastic slot canyon and great introduction to slot canyon photography. Do you have some fantastic shots of your own from Canyon Country?
