HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY TO LEXI - “Baby, baby, brush the dust of youth from off your shoulder...” -
We’re sure you will all want to join us in wishing many happy returns of the day to Alexandria Zahra Jones on her 18th birthday.
The colour picture on the left is of Lexi and her father, posted by Lexi on Fathers' Day. The image below that is of the tattoo she had done last year.
The picture on the right is of the recently turned 18-year-old Manish Boy, Davie Jones, outside the BBC during a lifelong occupational hazard...a fuss being made about his hair. But that’s a whole other story.
Happy Birthday Lexi, here’s wishing you love ‘n stuff from everybody here. -

STEPHEN STREET PRAISES ZEROES (2018) - “I’m Street side out with my ear to the crowd...” -
Five Years ago (pun intended) we featured top-hole record producer Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur, Suede, Peter Doherty), when he chose Ziggy Stardust for Danny Baker’s Great Album Showdown on BBC4, back in February 2013.
Explaining that the 1972 classic was the first LP he ever bought, he then went on to describe the record as life-changing: “I was captivated”. Street also pointed out that the musicians he has worked with over the years have a love of Bowie’s music in common.
Baker was in agreement with Street’s ‘life-changing’ theory when he suggested of Ziggy Stardust: “It seems absurd in these days to talk about an LP that could culturally change everything. But it did.“ Now Mr Street has given the reworked Zeroes (2018) the thumbs up on Twitter: “Actually, the 2018 version of Zeroes is more than 'pretty good'. It is a major overhaul that completely puts the original version in the shade. Great work by all involved. Boy, what would I give to have been able to work on this!” You can pre-order the 2018 @mariojmcnulty produced Zeroes/Beat Of Your Drum 7" picture disc here: http://smarturl.it/PreorderZEROES and read the press release here: http://smarturl.it/ZEROESpicdiscPR -
FOOTNOTE: Today’s lyric quotation is from the song Sweet Head, a song first released as a bonus track on the 1990 Rykodisc issue of Ziggy Stardust, appropriately enough. -

LOVING THE ALIEN (1983 - 1988) UNBOXING - "Watching them come and go..." -
BOWIE COLLECTOR: I AM IMAN CD - “I’ll leave my love between the stars...” -
Firstly, have a great rest of your birthday, @the_real_iman, from all of us here at DB Instagram HQ, (still a little over three hours to go in New York). On the occasion of Iman’s birthday we thought it appropriate to follow up on an item regarding her book: The Beauty of Color (2005), which we posted about recently.
The book was promoted with an accompanying very limited edition CD and our post was triggered by Iman’s own Instagram item regarding the book.
The same applies for today’s Bowie Collector feature, following another item on Iman’s Instagram back in February, wherein she credited the beautiful cover photography thus: “The front and back cover of my book I AM IMAN photo by Markus Klinko and Indrani 2000”. As with The Beauty of Color, the promotion of I AM IMAN (2001) created another of the more collectable Bowie CDs, even if it seems easier to find than the aforementioned follow up. This is most likely down to the fact that a number of copies were available to purchase and win via giveaways through BowieNet.
I AM IMAN is a 5-track compilation CDR, containing the following tracks: -
1 - The Wedding (David Bowie)
2 - Wild Is The Wind (Tiomkin/Washington)
3 - Loving The Alien (David Bowie)
4 - As The World Falls Down (David Bowie)
5 - Abdulmajid (David Bowie/Brian Eno) -
This promo only private pressing (commissioned and compiled by Bowie), was signed by the man himself with copies of the book signed by Iman.
Again, only 200 copies of the CDR were made, making this another of the rarest Bowie collectables. Both the signed CDR and the signed book make the set and it is considered incomplete by collectors without one or the other.
Stay tuned for more Bowie collectables shortly and feel free to suggest anything you would like us to feature. -

ZEROES, MARIO AND REEVES ON 6 MUSIC - “Something good is happening...” -
Shaun Keaveny and Matt Everitt, the most handsome double act since Millican and Nesbitt and BBC Radio 6 Music breakfast show presenters to boot, have the Bowie exclusive once again on Thursday morning (July 19). They’ll have the first radio play of the already streaming Zeroes (2018, Radio Edit), and a little pink monkey bird suggests they may also have contributions from two men involved with the creation of Never Let Me Down 2018: Bowie producer/engineer @mariojmcnulty and guitar mentalist, @reevesgabrels, the most handsome double act since Keaveny and Everitt.
The programme starts at 7:00, but if you’ve read this after the event, it will be available shortly after broadcast: http://smarturl.it/Zeroes2018on6Music

Parlophone Records are proud to announce David Bowie Loving The Alien (1983 – 1988), the fourth in a series of box sets spanning his career from 1969.

DAVID BOWIE IS VIRTUAL - PRESS RELEASE - “Welcome to virtual reality...” -
After touring the globe for the past six years, the phenomenally successful ‘David Bowie is’ exhibition has come to an end. But the show must go on! This fall, Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc., in collaboration with the David Bowie Archive, Planeta, and V&A, will release a digital recreation of the exhibition on smartphones as an augmented reality experience. In the spring, a redesigned ‘David Bowie is’ will arrive on all major virtual reality platforms.

BOWIE COLLECTOR: THE BEAUTY OF COLOR CD - “Still I keep my love for you...” -
Last week, Iman posted on Instagram regarding her book: The Beauty of Color/The Ultimate Beauty Guide for Skin of Color (2005). The promotion of this book threw up one of the more collectable Bowie CDs, and certainly one of the rarest, in the shape of a factory-pressed, 5-track compilation, containing the following tracks: -
1 - Fascination (David Bowie/Luther Vandross)
2 - I've Been Waiting For You (Neil Young)
3 - I'm Deranged (David Bowie/Brian Eno)
4 - Don't Let Me Down And Down (Tarha/Valmont)
5 - Abdulmajid (David Bowie/Brian Eno) -
This promo only private pressing (commissioned and compiled by Bowie himself), was packaged with review copies of the book and apparently also made available at the NYC launch party in October 2005.
It is suggested that fewer than 200 copies were pressed, which is why it is practically impossible to find a copy for sale online. Indeed, we can’t even find one that has sold online, which is why we’re loath to give a price estimate.
However, the book itself is still available in both hardback and paperback versions. We’ll be looking at the previous Iman Book/CD collectable, I am Iman, shortly. -

Conversation: The Soulfulness of David Bowie (http://smarturl.it/DBisBKMJuly15)
Join us as we close out David Bowie is with an intimate conversation on the influence of soul on David Bowie’s musical stylings. Award-winning guitarist and composer Carlos Alomar draws on thirty years of experience as Bowie’s music director and a member of his funk rhythm section, the D.A.M. Trio, to reflect on the overlooked but vital influence of R&B and soul on Bowie’s pop career. He is joined by vocalist Robin Clark, whose vocals were first featured on Young Americans (1975), which became a pivotal moment in Bowie’s career and rock history. Moderated by music journalist Christian John Wikane. + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + -
If the live Q&A session with Carlos Alomar in Berlin last September is anything to go by, attendees are in for a real treat. Carlos is a joy to listen to and he is joined by his very lovely wife, @therealrobinclark, both pictured in our montage, along with some of the Bowie albums they had a part in. -
