Campaign against the consumption of illegal bushmeat!
The poaching of wildlife for bushmeat is one of, if not the, most serious threat to lions in Africa. Poaching for bushmeat results in reduction in prey populations and results in direct mortalities of lions in snares. The LIon Recovery Fund supported a campaign by @wildlifecrimeprevention in Zambia designed to raise awareness among citizens of: a) the illegality of bushmeat sourced from poachers; b) the health risks associated with eating bushmeat; c) the impacts of eating illegal bushmeat on Zambia as a country – because poaching jeopardises wildlife-based tourism. We applaud this innovative approach and also the impressive, pro-active engagement from the Zambian authorities to tackle what is one of Africa’s most serious conservation challenges.
