My buddy @ajmorris_ had a great post today explaining how most individuals favor the “end” of the process, generally in social media this could be described by liking a shredded picture, or a huge lift they hit in a meet ( Appreciating the “End” rather to the “Mean”)
Is this weird? No, people like these images because it’s inspirational and intrinsically motivating, but this can be the downfall for some.
Obviously the “end” is the goal, in Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, he explains this by stating everything in a sense is a form of art, as a general is an artist of war, with the end of victory. But taking a pragmatic view on this, does any general reach this end of victory without understanding and working through the process ( the mean). The answer is no.
This depth of understanding takes time, you won’t understand it instantly, it WILL be delayed gratification when then end is met.
Understanding the means to an end is critical, and appreciating the process will make the end all the more understandable and filled with subjective happiness, which of course in a Aristocratic view, is the ultimate end of life.
