Ghent has to be not just seen but experienced. Take your time, get lost in the historic centre, explore the museums, enjoy our culinary talent and throw yourself into the bustling nightlife.

Best Under 23 riders 13- Remco Evenepoel, part 2 (watch also the previous post for the first part). The 22 victories are: Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne Juniors; Guido Reybrouck Classic (with 3’17” on Axel van der Tuuk); Course de la Paix Juniors, stage 2 (ITT), stage 4 and GC (with 1’55” on Mattias Skjelmose and 3’53” on Ludwig Aasheim) and the point and kom jersey; Tropheè Centre Morbihan, stage 1 and GC (with 3’48 on Andrea Piccolo and 4’11” on Soren Waerenskjold) plus the point jersey; Both the National Jr Championships: ITT and Road Race (with 4’38” on Vito Braet); GP General Patton, both the two stages and all the jerseys (GC with 2’40” on Mattia Petrucci and 5’07” on Xandres Vervloesem); both the European Championships: ITT and Road Race (with an incredible advantage of 9’44” on Alexandre Balmer and Carlos Rodriguez); Aubel - Thimister – Stavelot, stage 3, point and kom jerseys and GC (with 3’44” on Federik Thomsen and 4’08” on Biniyam Ghirmay ); the Giro della Lunigiana, won by riders like Nibali and Simoni, with 3 stages (1, 2 and 4) all the jerseys and the GC (with 2’33” on Ilan Van Wilder and 2’49” on Jakob Gessner); The Chrono des Nations MJ (with 1’10 on Donovan Grondin). The most important races of the season for a junior are the World Championships (Road Race and ITT) and he was able to do the double; he won the ITT with 1’24” on Luke Plapp and 1’38” on Andrea Piccolo, after two days, in the Road Race, on the very tough route of Innsbruck with135km and 2000mts of total ascent, he crashed at the start of the Gnadenwald climb, at 70km from the arrive, and he lost about 2’30”, he was able to regain the gap practically alone in only 15km! At 40km from the finish line on the Igls climb, he attacked and he won with 1’25” on Marius Mayrhofer and 1’38” on Alessandro Fancellu. Starting from 2019 he will join the Deceunick Quick Step Team, becoming the third rider since 2000 to skip the Under 23 category and pass directly from the junior to the World Tour, after Filippo Pozzato and Fabian Cancellara. I’m really curious to see what he will be able to do against the pro riders, starting from Vuelta a San Juan (20th Jan).
