• MEDITATE • WTF? Seriously, if you are STILL not making meditation a regular part of life, let me tell you at least 3 things that may be happening the longer you make weak-as-piss excuses not to. .
🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣

1. Your brain’s grey matter may be deteriorating faster than it needs to - that’s right, meditation has been shown to increase grey matter in the frontal lobe (the area you use to plan, organise, problem solve, regulate emotions and behaviours) and the hippocampus (an area involved in memory and learning). So stop dumbing yourself down!! 🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠

2. You are probably waaaaayyyyy less cool, calm and collected than you could be - meditation reduces the reactivity of the amygdala (the area responsible for stress and emotions) so you’re less likely to be hijacked by an intense feeling and act like a dick (like that time you screamed at the barista because you got a latte instead of a flat white 🤔). 😎😎😎😎😎

3. You’re more worried than you need to be over the shit you can’t control (e.g., having to pay bills, aspects of work- like that guy in accounts who always pays you late 🤬, what others might be thinking about you - actually anything that involves another person really). Meditation induces the relaxation response and helps you avoid getting caught up in unhelpful thoughts (about said shit). 🤷‍♀️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷‍♀️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷‍♀️

There are heaps of APPS out these days to guide your practice when you’re starting out, like @smilingmind and @headspace . Download them. Experiment with a few tracks. Commit to a week of daily practice and notice the effects. .

Sometimes from the outside it can seem like you have it all. We often make judgements about others without even thinking. But, if you’re stuck in a #hardplace, take a moment to #mindfully and purposely look for the details. The #beach is my #safeplace. It’s where I find my #5senses and it’s #grounding. In my work I encounter many people who have had very difficult childhoods and who carry little versions of themselves who are crying out for love, attention and nurturing. Sadly whoever was supposed to provide that didn’t and can’t anymore so we’ve got to be the “Healthy Adult” and provide that for ourselves. Does that young person not deserve that even now? I say better late than never! Thinking of that little person often helps illicit those feelings of caring and compassion for ourselves that can be a struggle. So what does your inner child need from you? How can you tend to their needs?

Just like when we take on anything new and challenging, the unpredictable surprises of motherhood can leave anyone feeling like they are ‘not good enough’ or ‘not a good mum’. If we pay too much attention to these thoughts, they can become the dominant narrative, and make you feel even worse.
.
Even in the worst of parenting days, there are small achievements. Point them out to yourself, write them down, or even text them to a friend (ok maybe not every time, unless you’ve got very understanding friends!) and change that narrative into ‘I’m doing my best’ and ‘I’m doing a good enough job at parenting’.
.
Let’s celebrate those small achievements! Today I managed to change a nappy in the smallest of baby change rooms without setting off the hand dryer (I do it every time) and thus avoiding an epic meltdown (mostly usually the toddler’s).
