When I say I usually end up liking a different picture than the main "planned" picture on a trip this is what I mean. I wanted to go down to Capitol Reef when the cottonwoods were golden yellow and the sky wasn't overcast, but wasn't pure blue either. Conditions were perfect (although I was a bit earlier than planned), I took the picture that I posted yesterday and all was good (of course every picture in a place like this is great). But then I continued hiking up the zig-zags of the Cohab Canyon trail and the view just kept getting better and better. I ended up liking this picture more than the one I came here for. I love that the golden cottonwood trees seems to flow through the valley like a river. Also it kind of blends into the canyon walls but you can see The Castle just right of the center of the picture.
Always keep your eyes open, the end goal of you trip may not be the most impressive or most enjoyable part of it.
