~ Activated Almonds ~
Why so? ... So many friends of mine tell me “I buy them, I open the bag and eat them. Simple”. Well maybe you can consider this for next time & the simplicity of doing your own at home. Activating your nuts make them easier to digest. Deactivated nuts contain enzyme inhibitors that prevent your digestive system from extracting all of their valuable nutrients.
Ever soaked your almonds overnight? Try it! Almonds, water, (enough to cover your almonds) and a sprinkle of salt - leave at room temperature for 12-24 hours and look at the brown slosh the water becomes and the now #sprouted nuts you reap.
From here, simply pat dry with paper towel or a cloth. And here’s the #neverseen part! I don’t own a dehydrator and my oven won’t sit at 64 degrees. I pretty much accepted I had to buy a dehydrator or miss out entirely. To be honest, I don’t have the money yet alone the storage space (check out my cute little kitchen!). 😏
Then it came to me... What is the temperature for our slow cooker?! The warm setting sits at 62-74 Degrees! So with that in mind 💥 I’ve been using my slow cooker ever since. I sit the nuts in my flour sift and the lid sits only slightly ajar, which allows the moisture to escape, the heat to remain low and the nuts to dry without direct heat on them. 🏌️♂️ Saw this idea nowhere, so it’s a genius original and I’m sharing it here 👌
Oh and yes, this is the kitchen that creates my #speltbread #creamcheese #whey #buttermilk #fermentedfoods #jam #butter and all the great scrumptious things I post and share.
HAPPY EATING! - Hope to see this concept being used 🙌
