Beet chips! Pretty good, but I think I'll fry them next time. Baking is just really hard to get uniform crispness. They were definitely kind of fun to make though. I think these were cylindra beets, tossed with oil, salt, pepper and rosemary. .

Wee baby celery I bought at the nursery today. I usually try to grow most things from seed to save $$ and also to have more interesting varieties in my garden. But, some things I will buy as transplants because itโ€™s a hassle to grow from seed. Things like celery and broccoli are *tiny* little seeds that take forever to get to transplant size. Itโ€™s worth the $.65 to save my time for plants like these. Iโ€™m interested to hear what other gardeners do. Do you prefer growing your own seedlings or buying transplants?

It hits you when you hold your newborn for the first time. You want the very best for them and for me that meant the best nutrition. This year we finally got sweet potatoes in the garden. Well, not my garden, my mother-in-law's. She has been so generous with her space and time! I practically handed her the sweet potato slips and walked away. But that's who she is. She would do anything for her grandbabies.

Well, thatโ€™s a wrap for me! The end of Garden 2018 (except for some Brussel sprouts that like the cold). I dug the sweet potatoes over the weekend in a winter weather mix, and got the rest out today. Every year I say Iโ€™ll plant a fall garden and then I never do. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thereโ€™s always next year, right? โœจโœจ
Favorites from my garden this year include the little orange Yum Yum peppers and the sweet potatoes. Iโ€™m taking a few green tomatoes inside to ripen and thatโ€™s it for garden harvests for me. .
โœจโœจ
Now itโ€™s time to prep the garden for 2019 - including mowing down the weeds and wildflowers and covering the garden with cardboard and tarps. Dan and I mulched up a ton of sticks and tree branches (take a look at my stories!) weโ€™ve been collecting for a while and that will go down too! .
โœจโœจ
Then I need to plant garlic and tulip bulbs and I can start planning the layout for next year!! Iโ€™m still trying to decide if I will start seeds next year or not. Iโ€™m leaning toward not!! Whatโ€™s going on in your garden right now?? #organicgardener #iamcountryside #homesteadlife

Check out the initial process behind my 2018 garden journal! I am in love with the end result...updates to come! But my initial post is the explanation behind why I created one and the process of how I put it together.

October Harvest! โ˜˜๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒถ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿฅ•๐ŸŒฟ.
.
Weather around here has been averaging 75, so my little garden is still growing. Awee! .
.
So greatdul for all of these vegetables, and the great times spent with friends and family at my little garden--really! .
๐Ÿฅ‘.
I often get asked, what type of vegetables should I grow?
I say grow what you consume the most. Ok, not if you eat a lot of squash. ๐Ÿ‘€Those will take over your entire property, but you get the idea. .
.๐Ÿ†
When I first started growing a garden, I grew eggplant because it was easy to grow and well..I like eggplant parmesan (That's it ๐Ÿคซ). So when I got tons of it, I didnt know what to do with it. Soo...luckily I gave it away. .
.
. ๐ŸŒถ
After that I carefully planned and learned how to grow red onions and other "hard to grow" veggies, herbs (I like) etc...which I know last a long time, and that my family and I will absolutely eat. .
.
๐Ÿฅฆ
I am leaving my kale and some broccoli, squash that's growing. I'll take a little video this week when I head over during the afternoon and show you the progress of the broccoli ๐Ÿค—.
.
.PS: Dont forget to eat seasonal foods, they are cheaper an your microbiome will be happy. How? Listen to my podcast with Dr. Doiullard and find out. (healyounaturally.com (SEARCH:Podcasts) ๐Ÿ˜‰
.
๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚If you are growing veggies, is your garden still going strong?
Last harvest?
If you can't grow, what seasonal vegetables have you noticed at the Farmers Market?๐Ÿ‘‡
