I've been participating in #Movember since many years, but this one is special. Because I want to share my story:
I do this to help support #MensHealth issues. When I first started, I didn't realize how big this was going to be for me. I started out because I could grow a #Mustache for a month and have people ask me about it (without being questioned on my taste in #staches 😂). This encouraged conversations about men going for the required health checks, which most avoid! Specifically the check ups to detect prostate/testicular cancer. The conversation has now grown to include mental health and suicide prevention issues too.
As #MentalHealth is now a part of the awareness program, I want to help empower other men. Help them be comfortable talk about their challenges, and issues they may be facing. We've been told - it is not #Manly to talk about your hardships, or ask for help. Times have changed and we need to make sure to not perpetuate these stereotypes. To that end, there's no better way than to share a #PersonalStory
I went through a bout of #Depression in 2017. I got out of a relationship, and I felt like I had lost everything. I am fortunate to have come out much #Stronger and better, and I’m glad to have gone through it. But, I initially completely shut down. I was barely talking to or hanging out with people. Later I started talking to my father. And he became my counselor & biggest supporter. He talked to me at the weirdest hours of the day and night, and thanks to him I #healed.
So if you're going through a tough time please make sure to ask for help. The people that love you, will be there for you #NoMatterWhat and if you feel like you can't turn to family or friends, there are always professionals who can provide the exact support that you may be in need of.
FINALLY, if the photos have brought you a smile or if this post has moved you. I request you to reply below and share a personal story or a few words of encouragement for others who may be going through a difficult time, so they may see it and know that they are not alone. It would definitely help them get over the fear of being judged for asking for help.
