I’m surrounded by tragic accidents constantly at work, but every once and awhile one hits harder than the others and sneaks past our walls & emotional defenses. And it sucks. Life is not a guaranteed, you never know what is going to happen. Someone can be young & healthy, then trip stepping up a stair, hit their head and never wake up because of a massive brain bleed. Someone & their family could fall victim to a random act of brutal violence in their home. It’s not the most bloody and gorey of traumas that are hardest to handle, it’s the stories behind the patient that are hardest.
So hold your loved ones close. Tell them you love them. Don’t hold grudges over stupid things. Never take a second for granted. Give as many hugs & kisses as you can.
I’m so grateful for my 3 amazing boys I get to come home to that make these hard shifts easier to swallow.
