Ashura is the day that Allah saved the Children of Israel from Pharaoh.
The virtues of fasting on this day are:
1) Fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ forgives our sins for the past year (Muslim, 1162)
2) Priority of fasting: Prophet (PBUH) used to be very keen to make sure he fasted on the day of ‘Ashoora’ because of its great status. It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I never saw the Prophet (PBUH) so keen to make sure he fasted any day and preferring it over another except this day, the day of Ashura, and this month – meaning Ramadan.” (Bukhari, 1867)
3) The Prophet (PBUH) came to Madinah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Ashura’. He said, ‘What is this?’ They said, ‘This is a righteous day, it is the day when Allah saved the Children of Israel from their enemies, so Musa fasted on this day.’ He said, ‘We have more right to Musa than you,’so he fasted on that day and commanded (the Muslims) to fast on that day.” (Sahih Bukhari)
4) The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: ‘The best of fasting after Ramadhan is fasting Allah’s month of Muharram.” (Sahih Muslim) (For dates of when to fast, please refer to the picture.) Please share this post with your friends to spread the benefits of fasting on the day of Ashura. If I am wrong somewhere, correct me for I am no scholar. JazakAllah Khair ❤
