Despedimos el tema de la vitamina b12 (todo empezó por una conversación de @vegandruski con un chaval que creo que ni siquiera ve los posts) con respuestas 100tíficas a algunos mitos sobre nuestra querida cobalamina 🙌🙌 hola frikis!!! 🙋🙋
1- Si eres vegetariano (comes lácteos y huevos) debes tomar suplemento de b12. La biodisponibilidad de b12 en esos productos es terriblemente paupérrima, para llegar a la RDA tendrías que comer entre 200 y 400 huevos diarios 😲😲😲.
2- Con los derivados fermentados vegetales (tofu, tempeh o como se escriba, etc) pasa lo mismo 🙈🙉🙊
3- La spirulina y otras algas no solo no tienen b12, si no que tienen análogos que ocupan los receptores de cobalamina y bloquean la abrorción de b12 real 😈. De hecho si tomas algas de esas porque te gustan, tómalas con al menos 6-8 horas de diferencia con el suplemento 😇
4- Las bacterias del intestino humano SÍ producen b12 y SÍ es b12 real y activa (como podéis ver en las fotos, se sabe esto por estudios donde se puso a gente a comer su propio popó 😨😨... eso sí es embutido del bueno 😅) peeeeeeeeero nuestro colon no es capaz de absorberla, así que na 😢 (Cuánto habrán pagado a esa gente para comerse su propia mierda? Cuánto tendrían que pagarte a ti? Déjamelo en los comentarios si tienes lo que hay que tener 😊) 5- Lleves el tipo de alimentación que lleves, la forma más segura, eficiente, natural, barata y sensata de darle b12 a tu cuerpini es tomar un suplemento de 2500mcg una vez a la semana 😎

My love for Neuroscience led me to pursue a PhD at the Max Planck institute for experimental medicine in Germany. I studied the molecular basis of touch in mammals and identified novel proteins that modulate touch sensitivity. Though very fun and rewarding, I knew during my PhD that this may not be the career option for me.

.
I started exploring options keeping in mind that I wanted to return to India and work there. I was always very conscious of my privileges and was inclined to give back in whatever way I could. I came across the Teach for India fellowship application. The fellowship recruits graduates to teach in low income government or private schools for a period of two years. The idea is to try to provide as many children with excellent education as possible.

The fellowship seemed like the perfect way for me to use my experience and share it with children who have not had those opportunities. There were multiple challenges when I made the decision to take a break from academia - people questioned this decision and the possible consequences it would have on my career. Thankfully, I also had immense support from others. My PhD supervisor was particularly a source of great strength. She pushed me to take up the fellowship and kept the door open for me if I decided to come back.

Today I work as a teacher to 60 students from grade 8&9 in a very low-income private school in Mumbai. The school is in a community that is severely under-resourced and opportunities for the kids are few. The lack of infrastructure & investment from parents is challenging, but the one thing that keeps me going is the kids. Each day despite facing harsh realities in their house and community, these kids come to school willing to learn, and my goal is to make school an enjoyable and safe space for them.

While I don’t use my scientific education in the school directly, a lot of other skills I learned play out regularly. I always tell my students, “Don’t put up structures to learning. Keep yourself open to learning each moment of life, and that is much more valuable than any course or examination".

Es un tema que debe ser tomado seriamente por todas las personas, especialmente atletas y mujeres después de la menopausia 👩🏻‍🏫Las cantidades recomendadas son 1,000 mg para hombres menores de 70 años y 1,200 mg para hombres mayores de 70 años y mujeres mayores de 51 años
.
🕵🏻‍♀️Uno de los argumentos favoritos de nosotros los veganos es que una dieta alta en proteína animal promueve la pérdida de calcio proveniente de los huesos. Sin embargo, esta noción ha sido desechada gracias a nuevos estudios
.
👩🏻‍💼Pequeños estudios sugieren que sujetos veganos tienen la misma (o ligeramente menor) densidad ósea que sujetos omnívoros
.
En el 2009, uno de los meta-análisis más serios sobre el tema concluyó: "existe un modesto efecto de una dieta vegana en la densidad ósea. Este efecto es tan pequeño que difícilmente sea clínicamente significativo" .
🙅🏻‍♀️Es necesario que todas las personas, no importando que sean veganas, omnívoras o americanistas (error fatal de vida), consuman por lo menos 1,000 mg diariamente de calcio
