I can’t believe I forgot this week’s #asana photos! 🙈 (Actually I can, I am very forgetful! 😜)
Anyway, this past week’s intention has been to find and embrace joy by being fully present in each moment. I usually use this week’s asana as a heart-opening practice, so I chose it for this week, because I think that for me, joy is hard to find and to embrace when my head and my heart are all out of sync. It’s hard to live harmoniously with our own selves. //
SO, this week’s asana is melting heart pose (Yin), also known as puppy pose (Vinyasa). To practice this pose, start with a good chest (or heart) opener, such as lying on your back with a bolster beneath your spine, as in photo 1. Your legs can rest on the mat beneath you with knees straight, or with knees bent, as in photo 2. //
To find melting heart/puppy pose, begin on hands and knees in Tabletop. Slowly walk your hands forward a bit, then send the bum into the air as you allow your chest to find a resting place on the mat, neck and forehead relaxed, as in photo 3. Remember to breathe, and in this place, allow yourself to feel joy deep in your heart. If that is too hard, then allow yourself to imagine feeling joy, and breathe into that image.
When you are ready to release the pose, it’s nice to take a child’s pose, allowing the bum to fall as your toes come together and knees spread wide. Rest and breathe.
To close your practice, imagine joy like little butterflies in your hand, and bring them close to your heart, as in photos 4 and 5. This also helps to “close” your heart, or protect it, after practicing such a deep heart opener.
Modifications can include a blanket beneath the knees (I always have one there!), or a bolster between the thighs or beneath the bum for extra support. //
And always remember that joy does not precede gratitude; rather, it is gratitude that gives birth to joy. Namaste, yogis ❤️
