Whenever I am in Los Angeles, I always try to meet up with my trainer Antonio. We’ve been working together for 10 years, off and on. Today was a heavy core, biceps and triceps day. I strive to push myself by doing exercises I’ve never done before. I wanted to see if I could complete mountain climbers against a wall while supporting my weight through my shoulders - looks like I can do it. 😆💪🏾

Sometimes there just isn’t time to waste sulking, analyzing, or mending wounds. Sometimes you just have to continue moving forward because your circumstances won’t permit you to stop.

This is exactly what I’ve been doing for the past few months. Not only can I not stop because my girls depend on me, but I can’t stop because I honestly don’t know what will happen if I do. Meaning, quite frankly, I don’t know if I can handle it. It’s hard to feel this way, but I believe that it is normal, especially in my current situation. And if it isn’t, well it is what it is.

I can’t control what happens to me, but I can control how I respond. Until I can get time to breathe, my response is to keep moving forward.

We all look at ourselves in the mirror everyday and that’s when you know that you could be real with yourself. Perform deadlifts is one of the most dangerous compound lifts that could potentially hurt your lower back if you perform them incorrectly, BUT if you perform deadlifts properly then it could be one of the most effective workouts that could help you build strength in all aspects of your training.

Here are some tips that I highly recommend:
.
.
1. Based on your height/preference/comfort ability make sure that you choose the form that best suits your body. I prefer a narrow stance sumo deadlift form because I’m most comfortable with that form when I lift heavyweight.
.
2. Positioning your feet is also key, I recommend (Spreading the floor) which is keeping your feet 90 degrees at first, and then applying pressure on your heels to slightly turn your feet away from each other causing your quads & hamstrings to be activated.
.
3. NECK POSITION - An important tip that even I still need to work on, but you want to make sure that your head is looking up when you’re deadlifting so that it doesn’t cause you to lean forward & then your using all of your back to pull the weight up.
.
4.Make sure that your chest is up, shoulders back, latts are activated, & CORE TIGHT. Exhale out on the repitition ! .
5. When you’re pulling the weight off the ground, you want to feel your feet pressing against the ground using your hamstrings, & then once you pick the weight off the ground THEN use thrust forward with your hips and squeeze your glutes to bring the bar up.
.
6. THERE IS NO PERFECT WAY TO DEADLIFT, it’s what suits your body & preference.
.
7. Don’t listen to the bullshit that people say, when they tell you that there is only one proper way to deadlift.

🏋🏻‍♂️👊🏻Here’s how to absolutely DOMINATE your competition in the gym.

💪🏻Whether you’re competing in a CrossFit competition, powerlifting meet, team sport…
_
📈Or you’re simply trying to crush a new PR
_
Here’s 3 simple practices to put you a step ahead of the game:
_
1️⃣First off, you gotta be eating enough. Period.
_
This is much more common than you’d think in athletes and serious lifters. If you’re under eating, you’re simply not giving your body the energy that it needs to be able to perform optimally.
_
‼️At the very MINIMUM, you should be consuming maintenance calories. If you’re looking to really enhance performance, you’ll want to be in a slight calorie surplus.
_
2️⃣Secondly, stop fearing carbs! If your goal is to lift heavy s***, jump higher, run faster… carbs are your best friend. They’re your body’s preferred source of fuel for high intensity activity.
_
🙏🏻🤣For goodness sake, please don’t make the same mistake I did and go Paleo during the middle of competition season.
_
3️⃣Finally, stay hydrated! This is so underrated by most people, and its such an easy fix. Aim to drink your bodyweight/2 in ounces of water every day, plus 15oz for each hour of training.
_
😳Just a 2% loss in body water is enough to experience decreases in performance and cognitive function!
_
There’s so much more that goes into optimizing performance (and therefore optimizing your gains 💪🏻), but if you take care of these 3 things, you’re off to a great start!

❌I was out of the gym for 6 months due to an injury. Now I’m back hitting the weights I was once repping like crazy. It’s all about how bad you want it & how far you’re willing go to see yourself succeed.❌
First video: I’m warming up with just the bar no weight.
Second video: Squatting 135lbs for reps
Third video: Squatting 185lbs for 5 reps
Fourth video: Squatting 205lbs for 2 reps.(Currently trying to build my strength on this weight & goal is to hit 5-8 reps)

🤷🏻‍♂️🥩How much protein is too much protein?
_
😤🍗On one end of the spectrum, you the have jacked bodybuilder “bro” telling you that you need 2g per pound…
_
🥗🥦On the opposite end of the spectrum is the vegan telling you that protein’s overrated and that too much is gonna hurt your kidneys…
_
🙄Who do you believe???
_
🤣How about neither of them, lol.
_
The reality is, ideal protein intake lands somewhere in the middle ground between the two extremes.
_
While it’s a hotly debated topic in the scientific community, the optimal range for an active individual seems to be:
_
‼️0.8-1.2g per pound of body weight
_
For example, I’m roughly 200lbs. So, I need to be eating 160-240g of protein per day.
_
💪🏻If you’re looking to make some gains, you definitely don’t want to be under eating protein.
_
📈Your body needs it to promote muscle protein synthesis and provide the raw materials for muscle growth.
_
But if for some reason eating copious amounts of chicken breast is your thing, going above that 1.2g/lb isn’t going to be detrimental.
_
🧓🏻One thing to note is that as you age, your body actually requires more protein to support muscle growth and preservation!
_
